Un beau miracle

1966. Une fille-mère très triste. Un enfant mis en adoption. 52 ans plus tard, des retrouvailles glorieuses et inespérées grâce à un test d’ADN et aux efforts d’un cousin curieux intéressé à ses racines.

Ma soeur Ginette a eu un enfant hors mariage à 18 ans, Dominique St-Amant, né le 25 novembre 1966 à Montréal. En 1968, Dominique a été adopté par la famille américaine d’Henry Montpas de la Pennsylvanie et est devenu Timothy Montpas. Ses parents ont déménagé au Texas dans les années 70 et Timothy demeure à Dallas depuis ce temps.

Quand Timothy a eu 50 ans, son épouse lui a suggéré de faire une demande d’ADN au site My Heritage. A peu près un an plus tard, Pierre Gauthier, notre cousin et membre très actif de l’Association des familles Saint-Amand(t), a fait une demande similaire. Quand Pierre a reçu ses résultats, Timothy Montpas est ressorti comme son parent le plus proche. Bien surpris par ce nom totalement inconnu et le degré de parenté, Pierre décida de faire des recherches. Après une série d’échanges de courriels et de téléphones, c’est le miracle et des tonnes d’émotions. Ginette retrouve son fils et Timothy retrouve sa mère. Pour Ginette, c’est très significatif que le premier contact entre Pierre et son fils s’est fait le 27 septembre 2018. Le 27 septembre était la fête de notre père (Clément).

Ces retrouvailles sont incroyables et c’est la fête pour toute la famille proche et éloignée. Ginette ne retrouve pas seulement son fils mais aussi une belle-fille incroyable et généreuse, Steffeny, et trois petits-enfants charmants et brillants, Courtney, Austin et Hayden.

Ginette et son mari Brian ont passé des jours mémorables à Dallas à la fin de juin et au début de juillet. Beaucoup de ressemblances entre mère et fils sont ressorties et Ginette a été très émue de rencontrer Henry Montpas, le père adoptif de Timothy, qu’elle remerciera toujours d’avoir aimé et élevé son fils.

Timothy et sa famille passeront les vacances de Noël en Alberta avec Ginette et Brian et l’été prochain, notre cousin René St-Amant planifie d’organiser une grande rencontre de la famille St-Amant à son chalet près de St-Joseph-de-Mekinac. Pour Timothy, ce sera l’occasion de retracer son histoire et de rencontrer non seulement cousins et cousines, oncles et tantes, mais aussi bien d’autres membres d’une grande famille élargie tellement heureuse de lui souhaiter à lui et à sa famille la meilleure des bienvenues.

Timothy est maintenant fièrement membre de l’Association des familles Saint-Amand(t).

A Miraculous Surprise

1966. A very sad unmarried mother. A child put for adoption. 52 years later, they gloriously and unexpectedly found each other thanks to a DNA test and to the efforts of a curious cousin interested in his roots.

When my sister Ginette was 18 years old and unmarried, she had a child, Dominique St-Amant, born the 25th of November 1966 in Montreal. In 1968, Dominique was adopted by the American family of Henry Montpas from Pennsylvania and became Timothy Montpas. His parents moved to Texas in the 70s and Timothy has lived in Dallas since then.

When Timothy was 50, his wife suggested to him that he should do a DNA test on the site My Heritage. About a year later, Pierre Gauthier, my cousin and a very active member of the Associaiton des familles Saint-Amand(t), did a similar test. When Pierre received his results, Timothy was listed as his closest family. This surprised Pierre who had never seen this name before and he decided to investigate. After a serie of emails and phone calls, a miracle happened with tons of emotions attached to it. Ginette found her lost son and Timothy his natural mother. For Ginette, it was very significant that the first contact between Pierre and her son happened on September 27th, 2018. September 27th was the birthday of our father (Clément).

This reunification is incredible and it is a big celebration for all the family, close and not so close. Ginette not only found her son but she also found an incredible and so generous and efficient daughter-in law, Steffeny, and three grown, successful and lovable grand-children, Courtney, Austin and Hayden.

Ginette and her husband Brian spent some memorable days in Dallas at the end of June and beginning of July. There were many resemblances between mother and son and Ginette was extremely touched to meet Henry Montpas, Timothy’s adoptive father, for who she will be alway be thankful to have loved and raised Timothy.

Timothy and his family will spend the Christmas holidays in Alberta with Ginette and Brian and next summer, our cousin René St-Amant is planning to organise a big reunion of the St-Amant family at his cottage near St-Joseph-de-Mekinac. For Timothy, it will be the occasion to retrace his history and to meet not only newly discovered cousins, uncles and aunts but also many members of a large extended family all happy to warmly welcome him and his lovely family.

Timothy is now a proud member of the Association des familles Saint-Amand(t).
