Avis de décès : M. Paul St. Amand (1932-12-20 - 2021-08-12)

On Thursday August 12, 2021, in the presence of his loving family and with his sense of humour intact, Paul St. Amand slipped away to join his beloved wife Elsie, his son Ron, his parents, many siblings, and friends. Paul was born in La Sarre, in the Abitibi Region of Quebec on December, 1932. He lived a very full, but simple life.

Paul had 9 sisters and 4 brothers and the patience of an angel. He was a very kind man, well known throughout the North Shore Region of Ontario as a man of integrity, and of good humour. Paul loved to share his passion for golf with his family and friends. As long as the weather was accommodating and his legs would take him, he could be found walking one of the 3 municipal courses in Thunder Bay. He celebrated 2 holes in one in his years on the course and we expect he, Elsie and Ron will play many rounds together in the great golf course in the sky. Paul's 4 children were born in Geraldton, Ontario. In 1966 his entrepreneurial spirit moved his family to Manitouwadge where he purchased his first Esso service station. Years later he sold the station in Manitouwadge and purchased the Esso service station and diesel depot in Nipigon, on the Trans-Canada Highway.

Paul met his beloved wife Elsie in Nipigon. The two had a wonderful, happy life together. They retired to Thunder Bay in 1982 and shared many years travelling to visit family and friends. In addition to his passion for golf, he loved to tell stories and to greet people with a warm smile. Paul was fortunate to have many grandchildren and 2 great granddaughters, who he loved deeply. He loved to hug them, hold their hands, joke with them and provide them with a lifetime supply of golf balls! He had a rare perspective on life and lived a humble life, grateful for the time he shared with others. In his final years he enjoyed the companionship of his fellow residents and staff at PR Cook (St. Joes' Heritage) on Red River Road.

Paul is survived by his three daughters, Tammy Banks, Debra St. Amand, and Susan St. Amand (Richard); Elsie's children, Melanie Albanese (Domenic), Gordie Baxter (Denyse), Michael Baxter, Mark Baxter (Sara), and Colleen Akin (David); his many grandchildren, Paul Banks, Scott Gammond (Minh Minh), Steve Gammond (Brittany), Emily Lalande, Laura Lalande, Nico Albanese, Christina Albanese (Alex Lagadin), and Ally Albanese (Johnny Sgromo); and his great-grandchildren, Lisa Gammond and Madeleine Gammond. He loved all of his family, near and far, and enjoyed every moment he shared with them.

A special thank you to Debra who was his frequent companion and chauffeur these past few years, for Melanie, who was his medical care support system, caregiver and friend and to Gary Gammond who was always a phone call away. Thank you to the caring and compassionate nurses on 4A at St. Joseph's Hospice and Palliative Care, especially Victoria and Alexa, who were so attentive to Paul and his family's needs in his last couple of days.

Cremation has taken place. A private service was held.
