John Francis St. Amant, 93, passed away July 5, 2019, at his home in Springfield, Ore., with his wife and daughters at his side. He was born in Biloxi, Miss., Nov. 8, 1925 the only child of Adolph and Earlie (McGruder) St. Amant.

After graduating high school at the age of 17 in 1944, John joined the U.S. Navy. He proudly served his country as a radioman on a subchaser in the Pacific during WWII. Following his service in the Navy he pursued a career in the banking industry.

One of John's great joys was participating in Oregon's own One More Time Around Again Marching Band as the baton-twirling drum major. It was also a great privilege for John to join other veterans from Oregon on the Honor Flight to the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C. He also spent many hours in later years designing and building models of his WWII subchaser as well as complex architectural designs.

John is survived by his wife of 39 years, Mary Jo Harris; and children whom he also dearly loved, daughters, Kristi and Sheryl St. Amant, Jacii Woods; and son, Mark St. Amant; Mary Jo's son, Randal Harris; and daughters, Michelle Harris and Rebecca (Rich) Johnson. He is also survived by former spouse, Ramona St. Amant; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m., Aug. 30, 2019, at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
