Avis de décès : M. Clyde Thomas St. Amant Sr. (1931-08-05 - 2017-02-02)

Clyde Thomas St. Amant Sr. of River Ridge, surprisingly passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. He was born to the late Louis Numa and the late Effie Comeaux St. Amant 85 years ago.

He led an interesting life as a young man attending St. Aloyisius and dutifully serving in the Coast Guard, but it got so much better when he met and married the late Lynn Kelly. Together they raised Kathleen (Paul Pastorek), Tommy (Kay), Kelly (Mitzy) and Cherie (Curt Scott), with much pride, enjoyment, and discipline. His expectations of his children and employees were always high – always the best! Those high standards were part of his success as a homebuilder. Never afraid of hard work, he learned several trades over his lifetime from cabinetry, street construction, house constructions, and even pool construction. When he finally took time for himself he immersed himself in the horse world, riding and caring for them. He loved riding in Mardi Gras Parades with the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Posse and trail rides. One of his dreams was to see the Rose Bowl Parade in person, to see the sliver saddles and beautiful horses prancing through the streets; he got to realize that dream and go to the game following it, a highlight for him indeed. Once he moved on from horses, his dream of owning a classic car, his El Camino, took his attention, bringing it to car shows and Cruising the Coast. He and Lynn travelled to many places overseas but he felt like America had everything (other than castles) right here. Maybe his favorite place on earth to be, other than at home, was his family camp in Lacombe where life is peaceful, beautiful, and a great family gathering spot. New Year’s Eve, his annual favorite, was spent watching all the family putting together all aspects of the celebration, and him just supervising and commenting. As life slowed down, his favorite part of the day was starting at six in the evening when he and Lynn would meet on their back porch and overlook their large yard looking for the raccoons, possums, snakes, etc. that would surface in the early River Ridge evening, solving all the world’s problems, and wondering why their children and grandchildren (Ryan, Jeff, and Kaitlin Pastorek, Nicholas St. Amant, and Carson, Chase, and Cole Scott) did what they did, and didn’t follow their advice. The joy that his great-grandchildren (Peter and Simon Pastorek) gave him, always high-fiving with them, brought out his tender side for sure. When Lynn died 13 months ago, his loneliness for her was overwhelming but he hung on a while longer to make sure he didn’t abandon his children too quickly as he struggled with COPD and emphysema. He was loved and respected and will be missed for his sage advice, great sense of humor, and strong moral character. He and Lynn always admired Cancer Crusaders because of their quest for finding a cancer cure and keeping funds local.

Please consider a donation in Clyde’s name, in lieu of flowers, to this all volunteer group; Cancer Crusaders, P. O. Box 7911, Metairie, LA 70010.
