CSM Alfred Emilien St. Amand, U.S. Army veteran, 83, of St. Augustine, passed away on Nov. 17, 2013, at the Bailey Family Center for Caring. He was born on Dec. 20, 1930, in Newark, N.J., son of the late Albert St. Amand and Anais Gagne.

His childhood was spent in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. He enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he served his country for 26 years. He fought bravely in the Korean War and also served time in Germany and Alaska. From his services, he received many awards and decorations.

After retiring from the service, he worked for many years in Rhode Island as a civilian contractor for the U.S. Navy, and then in West Virginia for the Dept. of Energy at the Morgantown Energy Technology Center. Retiring from METC, he moved to St. Augustine, where he has lived for the last 10 years.

He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Doris E. St. Amand, and her six children whom he raised as his own, Jeanne Nickerson of Providence, R.I., Louise Morrisette of Loveland, Colo., the late Jeryl Florio, Donald Nickerson of Warwick, R.I., Doris Montaquila of Johnston, R.I., Marianne Pina of St. Augustine; and 10 grandchildren. He is also survived by four sons from a previous marriage, Bruce St. Amand of Texas, Alfred St. Amand of Arizona, Thomas St. Amand of Illinois, Mark St. Amand of Texas, and 27 grandchildren.

Alfred St. Amand was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who have had the opportunity to know him. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
