Avis de décès : M. Lionel J. Cyr (1925-04-09 - 2005-08-14)

Lionel J. Cyr, 80, died Aug. 14, 2005, at a Van Buren nursing home. He was born April 9, 1925, in Van Buren, the son of Donat and Yvonne (St. Amant) Cyr.

He was educated in local schools and was a 1943 graduate of Van Buren Boys High School. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member and past commander of the American Legion, Levasseur-Farrell Post No. 49 of Van Buren. He was a member of the last group of servicemen who trained in the Seventh Cavalry Regiment. He was a charter member of the Disabled American Veterans, Parent-Ouellette Chapter and a member and past officer of the 40 and 8 Society. Lionel was a past member and officer of the Van Buren Jaycees, a member of the Van Buren Lions Club and the Knights of Columbus Council No. 1635 and was a past president and member of Club 17 at Long Lake's Van Buren Cove. Lionel worked as pest control specialist at the former Loring Air Force Base in Limestone for 28 years.

He is survived by one son, James Cyr and his wife, Marie-Berthe, of El Portal, Calif.; one daughter, Rebecca Switzer and her husband, James, of Kerrville, Texas; two granddaughters, Lisa Rossignol and Jessica Eyles; five great-grandchildren, Chloe, Sierra, Noah, Denali and Kobe; three brothers, Philip "Pete" Cyr and Roland D. Cyr, both of Caribou, and Donat Cyr of Surfside Beach, S.C.; one sister, Yvonne "Peewee" Walls of Virginia. He will also be missed by a very special sister-in-law, Irena Cyr of Van Buren and her family. He was predeceased by his wife, Viola (Lapointe) Cyr on July 10, 2005.

Relatives and friends may call 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, at the Ouellette-Thibault Funeral Home, 118 High St., Van Buren, and from 9 a.m. until time of service on Wednesday. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday, at the St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church. Committal service and interment will be in the parish cemetery.
