Avis de décès : Mme Suzanne St. Amant (- 2005-07-16)

Suzanne St. Amant Carson, a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and a longtime resident of Houston, Texas, died at the Houston Hospice Inpatient Facility on Saturday, July 16, 2005, at the age of 61.

She engaged her battle with cancer in the same way she had approached every challenge: with grace, courage, and a determination to succeed. Her participation in several research trials will certainly benefit countless future victims of Inflammatory Breast Cancer, a rare, aggressive and little understood disease.

Suzanne was a tireless and talented entrepreneur. She founded and managed three successful businesses in Houston: Search Plus, an executive recruitment firm; Suzanne Candies, a retail operation specializing in an upscale product line; and The Shade Tree Restaurant, a highly acclaimed establishment featuring both regional and international cuisine for a loyal clientele. Upon her retirement from her restaurant, she joined her husband's advertising firm, The Carson Group, as a media planner.

Along with her husband, Suzanne was an enthusiastic worker in local, State and national political campaigns, and will be remembered for her dedication.

Suzanne grew up in a military family, attending schools in Germany, as well as in various locations in the United States. She attended Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, and graduated from the University of Houston. While in high school, Suzanne joined the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls, rising eventually to become Worthy Advisor of Baton Rouge Assembly #3. She was also a member of the Tejas Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, in Houston.

She is survived by her husband, Paul J. Carson; by her two sons, Jason C. Thomas and his wife Alla, and Cary S. Thomas; and by her stepson, John Carson, all of Houston. She is also survived by her parents, Lieutenant Colonel (USA, Retired) Phil and Corinne St. Amant; by a sister, Yvette St. Amant Harvey and her husband James; and by two brothers, Colonel (USA, Retired) Philemon A. St. Amant II and his wife, Harriet, and Alexis A. St. Amant II and his wife, Floris, all of Baton Rouge.

Friends are cordially invited to a memorial service at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 3471 Westheimer Road, Houston, at 2 o'clock on Tuesday afternoon, July 26, 2005.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the Suzanne St. Amant Carson I.B.C. Research Fund, c/o M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, P.O. Box 4486, Houston, TX 77210-4486.
