Lucille B. (St. Gelais) St. Amand-Charbonneau, 81, of New Bedford and Brookville, Fla., died Thursday, July 7, 2005, at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness.

She was the wife of Gaston B. Charbonneau; they were married 17 years. She was the widow of Aurelle "Pee Wee" St. Amand; they were married more than 35 years.

Born in New Bedford, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Frederica (Boisvert) St. Gelais. She lived most of her life in New Bedford and was a communicant of St. Mary Church and most recently at St. Frances Cabrini Church of Brookville, Fla., where she and her husband wintered. She worked at St. Luke's Hospital and the Visiting Nurses Association until she retired. She also worked as a nurse's aide at the Casa Seville. She was also a stitcher many years ago. Mrs. St. Amand-Charbonneau was happiest when caring for others or her pets, and received much pleasure from her family. She especially loved Christmas, family gatherings and the joy of giving. She had an innate talent for beautifully decorating her homes. Family and friends will agree on her delicious cooking and generous hospitality. She was a lady with a great deal of style and class, and an accomplished seamstress; who made many of her own clothes throughout the years.

Survivors include her widower; two sons, Robert St. Amand and his wife, Jeannette, of Freetown and Roger St. Amand and his wife, Eileen, of Richmond, Maine; her surrogate son, Ernest Hachey and his wife, Patricia, of New Bedford; four stepchildren, Joanne Gonet and her husband, Frederick, of Westport, Claude Charbonneau and his wife, Charlene, of Lawrence, Daniel Charbonneau of Fairhaven and Nicole Martin of New Bedford; a sister, Theresa Sparks of Westport; a brother, Normand St. Gelais of Lakeville ; a cousin, Violette Martins of New Bedford; two brothers-in-law, Gerard St. Amand and his wife, Doris, and Lucien St. Amand and his wife, Evelyn, all of Acushnet; a sister-in-law, Lorraine Bigler and her husband, Vernon, of Monrovia, Calif.; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was the sister of the late Romeo St. Gelais, Conrad St. Gelais and Raymond St. Gelais and Jeannette R. Blanchard, Imelda Forand and Medora St. Gelais.

Her funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary Church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Arrangements are by Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd. Mr. Haywood.
