Avis de décès : Mme Sylvia A. St. Amand (1940-02-21 - 2016-08-19)

Sylvia A. St. Amand, 76, a longtime resident of the Atwater Park section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Friday, August 19, 2016. She was born in Springfield on February 21, 1940, a beloved daughter of the late Eugene H. and Eliane (Giroux) St. Amand.

Sylvia graduated from Maria Assumpta Academy in Petersham in 1957 and attended Anna Maria College in Paxton. She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Saint Anne, taught piano and was a choral director in several New England parochial schools as well as the Fox Hollow School in Lenox. Sylvia earned a Master’s Degree in Music from the Hartt School of Music and a Master’s Degree in Library Science from Simmons College. She later worked at the Springfield Library in the Art and Music Department from 1976 to 1996. Her greatest loves were her piano, her piano students, choral directions and the writing of Religious Icons.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Sylvia and her sister, Madelaine, will be held on Friday morning, September 9, 2016 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01104. Their burial will follow the Mass at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 421 Tinkham Road, Springfield, MA 01129. There are no visiting hours at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107. For more details, please visit:


Elle était la fille d'Eugène St-Amand et d'Éliane Berthe Giroux; la petite-fille de Théophile St-Amand et de Célanire Gamache; l'arrière-petite-fille de Théophile St-Amand et de Mathilde Marchessault. Elle est une descendante de Michel Lebrette dit St-Amand.
